CLARKSDALE, Miss. — The Downtown Clarksdale Farmers Market returned for its second season on June 11, bringing fresh produce, local entrepreneurship, and community connection to the courtyard of Collective Seed and Supply Company in downtown Clarksdale.

The market will continue every Thursday at 5 p.m. through Aug. 6, offering residents the opportunity to purchase locally grown produce while supporting small businesses and regional growers throughout the Mississippi Delta.

As vendors arranged baskets of fresh vegetables, baked goods, and homemade products beneath the open summer sky, community members gathered throughout the courtyard, enjoying a welcoming atmosphere designed to encourage collaboration, conversation, and collective growth.

The event received support from the Partnership for a Healthier America through its Rootswell initiative, which provided $10 produce vouchers to consumers. Organizers reported that all vouchers were claimed within the first 20 minutes of the market opening, reflecting both the excitement surrounding the event and the growing demand for healthier food options within the community.

Consumers expressed satisfaction with the increasing variety of fresh produce available this season, while vendors viewed the market as an important opportunity to expand their businesses and connect directly with customers.

Among the young entrepreneurs participating was Raylan McCastle, a 2026 high school graduate and owner of Raylan’s Craveable Treats. McCastle explained that her business began as a senior-year fundraiser before quickly evolving into a full-scale baking business.

She described the Farmers Market as a valuable opportunity to gain exposure while building confidence as a young business owner.

The market has already generated strong momentum in its second year, with an expanding list of vendors, continued community support, and growing interest in locally sourced food.

For Opelia McHenry and Jenie McHenry, the market represents something even deeper than commerce. The pair sees the Farmers Market as an opportunity to educate the community about healthier food choices and reconnect younger generations with agricultural traditions rooted in family history.

They shared that their grandparents once worked as gardeners on plantations, and they are proud to continue that legacy by growing and selling produce in today’s free-market economy.

By sharing both their harvest and their knowledge, they hope to inspire younger generations to appreciate the value of gardening, sustainability, and self-sufficiency.

As the Downtown Clarksdale Farmers Market continues to grow, organizers remain focused on strengthening local agriculture, supporting small businesses, and creating opportunities for residents to gather, learn, and invest in the health of their community.

The Downtown Clarksdale Farmers Market is held every Thursday at 5 p.m. in the courtyard of Collective Seed and Supply Company and will continue through Aug. 6. Community members interested in becoming vendors are encouraged to contact market organizers for information about participating in upcoming events.
