Jackson, Mississippi– AT&T opened a new Connected Learning Center inside the Bean Path in Jackson to provide internet access and high-quality educational tools to residents who encounter barriers to online participation. In addition, AT&T made a $50,000 investment to Bean Path for programming support.
According to U.S. Census Bureau data, millions nationwide still don’t have access to the internet or connected devices needed to fully participate in the online world, an issue known as the digital divide.
“The Bean Path was founded to make technology more accessible and create pathways to opportunity for every Mississippian,” said Dr. Nashlie Sephus, CEO, Bean Path. “This Connected Learning Center expands that mission by giving our community a place to learn, create and build the digital skills that are increasingly essential for school, work and everyday life.”
This Connected Learning Center is the first in Jackson and the second in Mississippi. It offers free access to digital resources, including high-speed AT&T Fiber internet, Wi-Fi and Dell computers. It also provides educational resources such as The AchieverySM, a free digital learning platform by AT&T, and free digital literacy courses in partnership with the Public Library Association. Tutoring and mentoring are also provided by AT&T employees and community leaders.
“Our investment in the Connected Learning Center at Bean Path directly reflects our commitment to get more Americans connected and make an impact in the communities we serve,” said Michael Walker, Vice President, External & Legislative Affairs, AT&T Mississippi. “The center will give local families access to free internet connectivity, educational and mentoring resources to help them succeed in digital school and job environments.”
This effort is part of AT&T’s initiative to help address the digital divide through internet accessibility, affordability and safe adoption. AT&T is committing $5 billion to help 25 million people get and stay connected to high-speed internet by 2030.
“Reliable internet access and digital skills open doors to education, careers and economic opportunity,” said Congressman Bennie Thompson. “This Connected Learning Center is an investment in people and in Mississippi’s future, giving more residents the tools they need to learn, grow and succeed.”
“Strong communities are built when everyone has the opportunity to thrive,” said Mayor John Horhn. “This new Connected Learning Center will provide a welcoming space where residents can access technology, develop new skills and connect with resources that strengthen families and support our local economy.”
AT&T opens these centers within local nonprofit organizations that are already adept at supporting underserved populations within their community, including some of our nation’s most vulnerable students and families. The company is on track to open its 100th Connected Learning Center in 2026, marking a major milestone in its nationwide expansion.
As part of their commitment to digital inclusion, Dell Technologies has donated Dell OptiPlex computers with integrated audio and webcams.
