CLARKSDALE, Miss. — Clarksdale Day FallFest began Monday with a successful Golden Generations BBQ, launching a weeklong celebration of the city’s culture, history and traditions.
Founder Dave Houston said the opening event brought organizers and community members together with senior residents for an afternoon of food and fellowship.
“Day 1 of the Clarksdale Day FallFest week is in the books,” Houston said. He encouraged residents to visit people living in nursing homes and retirement communities, adding that spending time with seniors can be an enjoyable and meaningful experience for everyone involved.
Houston also thanked the sponsors who helped make the inaugural Golden Generations BBQ Pit Stop possible.
FallFest continues through Sunday, Sept. 27, with activities planned for residents and visitors of all ages. Clarksdale High School’s homecoming game, scheduled for Friday night, is also included among the week’s events.
The celebration gives former residents and people with family or historical ties to Clarksdale an opportunity to return, reconnect and celebrate the community.
Although Clarksdale is internationally recognized for its blues heritage, the city’s identity reaches far beyond music. Generations of families, schools, churches, businesses, civic organizations and neighborhoods have contributed to its history.
The weeklong celebration brings those connections together while giving younger residents an opportunity to learn more about the people and traditions that helped shape Clarksdale.
