CLEVELAND, Miss. — Downtown Cleveland’s OctoberFest weekend brings barbecue, music and family fun—and Delta Dairy offers a sweet stop along the way.
The locally owned dessert shop is also supporting this year’s celebration. According to the festival sponsor flyer, Delta Dairy is providing Wi-Fi for the V.I.P. tailgating area at the 44th annual OctoberFest.
Presented by the Cleveland-Bolivar County Chamber of Commerce, the festival takes place Friday, Oct. 9, and Saturday, Oct. 10, in historic downtown Cleveland. Activities include the Mississippi Delta State Barbecue Championship, arts and crafts, concessions, children’s activities and live entertainment.
For visitors looking to add dessert to their downtown outing, Delta Dairy puts creativity in the customer’s hands. The self-service shop offers ice cream, frozen yogurt, custard, Italian ice and sorbet, along with ice-cream sandwiches. Its website lists 12 soft-serve flavors and more than 30 toppings, allowing customers to create their own combinations and pay by weight.
Choices listed on the shop’s flavor page range from vanilla custard and triple chocolate to birthday cake, espresso ice cream and watermelon sorbet. The business describes its lineup on Facebook as rotating and seasonal, giving returning customers opportunities to try something different.
Delta Dairy’s story began in 2013, when Matty and Suzette opened the shop after finding inspiration in self-service dessert businesses they had visited elsewhere. Originally from New York City and Texas, respectively, the couple met in Mississippi in 2008 and grew to love the community they now call home.
On their website, they describe the shop’s growth into a neighborhood gathering place as a source of joy. Their goal is to create a welcoming atmosphere where kindness is encouraged and customers of all ages can enjoy time together.
This OctoberFest weekend, that community connection extends beyond the dessert counter. With its support for the festival’s V.I.P. tailgating area, Delta Dairy is helping keep guests connected while downtown Cleveland celebrates one of its longtime traditions.
