(Jackson, Miss.) — Coahoma Community College is proud to announce that it was selected as one of Mississippi’s seven Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) to receive a $2,500 scholarship donation from the Ladies of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. during the organization’s recent State Cluster held in Jackson, Mississippi.

The seven Mississippi HBCUs recognized during the event included:

  • Coahoma Community College
  • Hinds Community College – Utica Campus
  • Alcorn State University
  • Jackson State University
  • Mississippi Valley State University
  • Rust College
  • Tougaloo College

Representing Coahoma Community College at the event was Dr. Larry Webster, Dean of Career and Technical Education, who proudly accepted the scholarship check on behalf of the institution. The presentation was made by Ms. Amaris L. Johnson, Southern Regional Director of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.

The State Cluster conference brought together more than 1,200 members of the sorority for a weekend of fellowship, leadership development, service initiatives, and community impact. The scholarship presentations served as a meaningful investment in higher education and a demonstration of Delta Sigma Theta’s longstanding commitment to academic excellence and student achievement.

At Coahoma Community College, the $2,500 scholarship can provide direct financial assistance to deserving students, helping to offset the cost of tuition, books, fees, and other educational expenses. For many Coahoma students, financial support of this kind plays a critical role in reducing economic barriers, allowing them to remain enrolled, persist through completion, and focus on their academic and career goals.

The contribution also supports the College’s broader mission of expanding access to affordable, high-quality education for students throughout the Mississippi Delta and beyond. By easing financial burdens, the scholarship helps empower Tiger Scholars to pursue credentials in academic transfer programs, career and technical education, health sciences, and workforce training preparing them for immediate employment or continued study at four-year institutions.

“Support from organizations like Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. makes a meaningful difference in the lives of our students,” said Dr. Webster. “Investments in scholarships not only open doors to opportunity but also strengthen our ability to serve students who are determined to succeed despite financial challenges.”

Coahoma Community College extends its sincere appreciation to Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. for its continued partnership, generosity, and dedication to advancing educational opportunity and community impact across Mississippi’s HBCUs.
