Clarksdale, Mississippi — Coahoma Community College welcomed former U.S. Vice President Kamala Harris to its campus on Thursday, October 22, 2026, for a special visit highlighting student engagement and campus hospitality.
The visit offered a memorable opportunity for students, faculty and staff to extend a warm Coahoma welcome while greeting one of the most recognizable public figures. Kamala Harris spent time exchanging greetings with students and experiencing the welcoming atmosphere that distinguishes the historically Black institution.
U.S. Rep. Bennie G. Thompson, who represents Mississippi’s 2nd Congressional District, was also in attendance for the occasion.
During her stop, Harris visited the Coahoma Community College bookstore, where she had an opportunity to experience a familiar part of campus life. The visit provided another setting for personal interactions and offered a glimpse into the everyday experiences of Coahoma students.
For members of the student body, the occasion presented an opportunity to meet and engage with a former national leader. The visit also highlighted the pride and sense of community that continue to define Coahoma Community College. From its academic programs to its longstanding history of service in the Mississippi Delta, the institution remains dedicated to creating an environment where students feel welcomed, valued and inspired.
As one of Mississippi’s historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs), Coahoma Community College has a longstanding tradition of providing educational opportunities, promoting academic achievement and preparing students for success. The college continues to embrace the historical significance of HBCUs while supporting the next generation of scholars, professionals and community leaders.
HBCUs have long played an essential role in expanding access to higher education and creating environments where students can develop academically, personally and professionally. At Coahoma, that tradition is reflected in the relationships formed across campus, the opportunities available to students and the institutional pride shared by the college community. Rooted in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, Coahoma Community College continues to build on its legacy of educational access, cultural heritage and service to the surrounding communities.
