Clarksdale, Miss. — On Monday, Johnny Jones was officially sworn in as Assistant Chief of the Clarksdale Police Department, marking a significant milestone in his law enforcement career and a deeply personal moment for his family.

Following the ceremony, Jones shared a heartfelt message reflecting on the honor and responsibility of his new role. He expressed gratitude to Vincent Ramirez and others who placed their trust in him to serve the community in a leadership capacity. Jones also paid special tribute to former Chief Sandra Johnson, noting the privilege of working alongside her over the past year while she served as a consultant.

“This moment meant more to me than words can express,” Jones wrote. “Chief Johnson is holding my mother’s Bible in this photo — my mom passed away on August 8, 2024 — and I know she was with me in spirit today.”

Jones also remembered his father, who passed away on December 24, 2025, sharing that while their absence was deeply felt during the ceremony, their love and guidance continue to motivate him in his service.

The newly sworn assistant chief thanked family members, friends, colleagues, and community supporters who attended the ceremony, as well as those who were unable to be present. He emphasized his continued commitment to the citizens of Clarksdale, pledging to give his best in service to the community.

“I am committed to continuing to give my all to the citizens of Clarksdale,” Jones said. “You deserve nothing less.”

Jones’ appointment adds experienced leadership to the Clarksdale Police Department as it continues its mission to serve and protect the community.
