By MDA Staff Writer | November 2, 2026

MISSISSIPPI DELTA — Clarksdale closed its regular season with a rivalry victory, Edwards preserved an unbeaten record, and several Delta teams reached the final stretch of their schedules during games played Thursday and Friday.

Clarksdale defeated Rosa Fort 20–8 on Friday, giving the Wildcats a 6–3 record after they entered the matchup at 5–3. Rosa Fort moved to 5–4. The result followed Clarksdale’s 51–0 win at Byhalia and gave the Wildcats consecutive victories to finish the scheduled regular-season slate.

Coahoma County’s season ended on a harder note Thursday. Independence defeated the Panthers 35–18. The final was confirmed by the statewide scoreboard and the MHSAA-partnered team page. Coahoma County finished 3–6 in the available MaxPreps record.

In Ruleville, Edwards continued its perfect run by shutting out Yazoo County 40–0. The Tigers improved to 9–0 and posted a second consecutive shutout after beating Leland 36–0 the previous week. The two victories extended a defensive stretch in which Edwards did not allow a point.

Elsewhere, Canton edged Greenville 36–32. Greenville fell to 3–6 but produced its highest verified point total since scoring 34 against Edwards in September. Lanier defeated Cleveland Central 26–18, leaving the Wolves 6–3. Yazoo City beat Gentry 28–22, J.Z. George blanked Leland 16–0, Shaw defeated Riverside 24–8, and Simmons shut out West Bolivar 50–0.
