Clarksdale, Miss. — The historic Riverside Hotel, home of the Living Blues & Civil Rights Museum, will open its doors to the public for a special community event on Saturday, April 4, offering visitors a chance to experience one of the Mississippi Delta’s most iconic landmarks.
The free Open House will take place from 10:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at the Riverside Hotel, where guests can explore the newly developed Interpretive Center and learn more about the rich cultural history preserved within its walls.
As part of the event, attendees will have the opportunity to meet Darrius and Justin Gates, the fourth-generation family members continuing the legacy of the Riverside Hotel. Their stewardship represents a continuation of the hotel’s deep-rooted connection to blues history and the broader civil rights movement in the Delta.
Organizers say the event is designed to bring the community together while honoring the stories, music, and people who have shaped the region. The Riverside Hotel has long been recognized as a cornerstone of Clarksdale’s cultural identity, once serving as a safe haven for Black travelers during segregation and hosting legendary blues musicians.
Guests are encouraged to bring family and friends for an afternoon filled with food, live music, and fellowship. The event aims not only to celebrate the past but also to strengthen community ties and ensure the preservation of local history for future generations.
The Open House is open to the public at no cost.
