GREENVILLE, Miss. — Students in grades nine through 12 from six area high schools are eligible to apply: Greenville Weston High School, Greenville Christian School, St. Joseph Catholic School, Washington School, Riverside High School and O’Bannon High School.
The program is designed to give young people firsthand exposure to city government while encouraging community involvement.
According to the city, council members learn about municipal government, volunteer with community organizations, advise the mayor on issues affecting young people and participate in special projects and events.
The council meets on the third Sunday of each month at Greenville City Hall.
Programs such as the Mayor’s Youth Council give students an opportunity to learn how decisions affecting their communities are made while developing leadership and civic engagement skills.
Greenville-area teenagers interested in government, community service or leadership must submit their applications by 5 p.m. Friday, Sept. 11, 2026.
Applications are available through the City of Greenville and principals at participating schools. The city also provides an online application for the Greenville Mayor’s Youth Council.
