MOORHEAD, Miss. — Mississippi Delta Community College has created a permanent link between its first century and the generations that will follow by dedicating a time capsule on its Moorhead campus.
The college held its Centennial Time Capsule Ceremony on Sept. 3 at the campus Quad as part of MDCC’s continuing 100th-anniversary celebration.
Dr. Sharelle Grim, chair of the Social Sciences Department and a history instructor, led the time-capsule project. College employees were invited to contribute small objects that represent MDCC and its community.
Items placed inside include a letter from MDCC President Dr. Steven Jones, college and athletics memorabilia and handwritten memories from students, faculty and staff.
Students in the college’s Construction Equipment Operation program also participated. Under instructor Emmanuel Williams’ direction, they prepared the location where the capsule will be buried.
The ceremony included remarks from Jones, Athletic Director Tangela Banks and Grim. Baptist Student Union Director Josh Warren delivered the invocation.
By preserving institutional records alongside personal memories, the capsule documents not only MDCC’s programs and accomplishments but also the experiences of the people who shaped the college during its centennial year.
