Community event brings mental health resources, family activities, health organizations and free services together
Clarksdale, Mississippi– Milestone marked five years of serving the community with its 5th Annual Wellness Fair, bringing families, health organizations, vendors and community resources together for a day focused on wellness, support and fun.
The annual event served not only as a celebration of Milestone’s fifth year but also as an opportunity to remind residents that help and resources are available for individuals and families facing mental health challenges.
Desere Wilson, administrative assistant for Milestone, said the wellness fair has grown alongside the organization and provides a welcoming environment where community members can learn about services while enjoying activities with their families.
“Today we are having a wellness fair where we celebrate being open for five years,” Wilson said. “We have vendors here, we are giving away free food, bull riding, water slides, bouncing houses, and we have pets here to feed.”
Beyond the entertainment, the heart of the event was connecting residents with resources that can make a difference in their everyday lives.
Milestone provides outpatient community mental health services, including community and peer support. Wilson said the organization works with individuals dealing with conditions and concerns such as anxiety, depression and schizophrenia while also providing a place for people who simply need someone to talk to.
“Our goal is to reach those who need mental health care,” Wilson said.
The wellness fair featured several organizations and informational booths addressing different needs within the community. Among those participating was the Mississippi Delta Health Partnership, which provided information and support geared toward pregnant women and mothers who recently had babies.
Resources addressing domestic violence were also available during the event, giving attendees access to information about another issue affecting individuals and families throughout communities.
The fair combined those educational and health resources with activities including balloon twisting, face painting and 10-minute massages, helping create an atmosphere where serious conversations about health and wellness could take place in a comfortable, family-friendly setting.
Wilson said many of Milestone’s services are offered at no cost. The agency also accepts Medicare, Humana and other insurance coverage.
For Milestone, the fifth anniversary represents more than the number of years its doors have been open. The annual wellness fair reflects the organization’s broader mission of reaching people who may be struggling and ensuring they know they do not have to search for resources alone.
As Milestone moves beyond its five-year milestone, Wilson said the agency remains committed to community outreach, peer support and helping connect residents with mental health services.
The message behind this year’s celebration was simple but important: when someone needs support, Milestone wants the community to know there is a place to turn.
