Clarksdale, Mississippi– Coahoma Community College honored its Respiratory Therapy and Registered Nursing graduates during a special pinning ceremony held May 7, 2026, at the Pinnacle Building, recognizing not only the achievements of the students, but also the growing importance of healthcare professionals across the Mississippi Delta.

As family, friends, faculty, and community supporters gathered to celebrate the graduates, the event highlighted the critical role nurses and respiratory therapists play in strengthening healthcare access throughout rural communities in the region.

Dr. Chequita Dixon, Dean of Health Sciences, welcomed attendees and applauded the graduates for their dedication, perseverance, and commitment to serving others through healthcare. She emphasized that each graduate represents a meaningful investment in the future health and well-being of Delta communities.

The keynote address was delivered by Dr. Nikki Lockett Cager, whose message encouraged graduates to embrace both the responsibility and the privilege of caring for others. Drawing from her extensive background in medicine and medical leadership, she spoke about the impact compassionate healthcare professionals can have on underserved communities.

She reminded graduates that their careers extend beyond hospitals and clinics and into the heart of the communities they will serve. “This is the beginning of a lifelong journey of service,” she said. “Your calm presence, critical thinking, and passionate care will save lives and strengthen communities.”

The ceremony celebrated students who completed rigorous healthcare programs designed to prepare them for the demands of modern patient care. As healthcare needs continue to grow throughout the Mississippi Delta, the graduates are entering the workforce at a critical time, bringing valuable skills, compassion, and leadership to the region.

College officials noted that ceremonies like this reflect the institution’s continued commitment to developing healthcare professionals who will make a lasting difference across Mississippi and beyond.
