A Bed, A Blessing, A Better Tomorrow for Delta Children

Clarksdale, Mississippi– In communities like ours, some of the biggest blessings often begin with people simply seeing a need and deciding to do something about it. That is exactly what lifelong friends Demarco Brown and Phillip Davis have done through the Grounded and Divine Foundation.

Phillip Davis, who serves as a Housing Authority commissioner, and Demarco Brown grew up together attending Clarksdale High School. Long before founding the organization, the two were already deeply rooted in serving the community through neighborhood cleanups, workforce development programs, and mentorship opportunities for local youth.

“We saw that so many young people get overlooked,” Davis shared. “We just wanted to fill the gap wherever we could, whether that was through community cleanups, mentorship, or helping people prepare for jobs.”

But through their service work, they soon discovered another need quietly affecting families across the Delta — children without beds to sleep in.

“The beds are one thing that falls through the cracks,” they explained. “Sometimes it’s the simple things people don’t think about. Does the child even have somewhere comfortable and safe to sleep?”

That realization sparked the foundation’s newest outreach effort: helping provide beds for children and families in need.

Through partnerships and strong community support, including collaboration with Beds for Kids, the Grounded and Divine Foundation currently has 30 beds available for pickup while already facing more than 100 additional requests from families needing assistance. The wooden bed frames are handmade and picked up through the Tupelo-based organization, helping ensure children have a proper place to rest their heads at night. Delta Consignment Collection, based in Clarksdale, Mississippi, has also been a strong partner by donating bedding to help complete the installation of the beds.

For Brown and Davis, the mission goes beyond furniture. It is about restoring dignity, comfort, and peace of mind for families who may already be carrying heavy burdens.

Applications for assistance can be completed directly through the foundation’s website at Grounded and Divine Foundation.

Community members who would like to support the initiative are encouraged to donate bed sheets, pillows, and comforter sets. Organizers say these simple household items can make a profound difference in the organization’s ability to fully provide for families and help ease the burden many parents and caregivers face.

In a world where people often wait on someone else to step in, Brown and Davis continue proving that real change starts right at home — with compassion, consistency, and hearts willing to serve.
